Arc Flash and K-12 Schools

Ahh, it’s that time of year again. Time to pack lunches and get the kids off to school. As I was attending open houses this week for my children, it brought up a great point for you as an informed professional and concerned parent to consider. Arc Flash in K-12 Schools! Yes, even elementary, middle, and high schools have arc flash hazards. While your children should not be at risk of any exposure to these hazards, you may want to consider that many older districts have classrooms and hallways with electrical panels present. If a maintenance employee is called to do work on this equipment while school is in session, there could be a chance of exposure.
If you are a safety professional reading this blog today, you can take action by checking with your child’s school administrators or school board to determine if plans are being made to have arc flash assessments performed in the future. Lewellyn Technology can help as we have conducted arc flash analysis for hundreds of schools across the country.
Hope your children have a great year and let us know if we can help with Electrical Safety or Arc Flash Hazard Analysis. If you have further questions regarding arc flash hazards in schools, please contact us for more information.
